Ten junta troops killed in Chin State’s Matupi

Ten junta soldiers were killed and five were injured in fighting with the the Matupi Chinland Defense Force (CDF) in Chin State’s Matupi on 16 April, according to Matupi CDF.

There had been fighting earlier in the week between Matupi CDF and the military on 10 April after junta forces left the town of Matupi on 9 April for Paletwa.

The soldier’s route took them through Tuisip Village on 11 April, Valangpi Village on 12 April and Kalar Village on 13 April. In each of those villages, they stole all the villagers’ pigs and chickens. In Valangpi Village they also burned down all the barns.

About 1,000 people who live on the Matupi to Paletwa road have been forced to flee to the forest to avoid the fighting as the junta carries out offensive operations in Matupi.

Since it was founded on 10 April 2021 Matupi CDF has clashed 64 times with the military junta leaving 15 CDF fighters dead and 21 wounded.

On 15 April a Matupi CDF member was killed whilst clearing landmines on the frontline, according to a Matupi CDF statement.
