Mawlamyine NLD Chair, Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, Applies for Health Insurance

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, Chair of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party  in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, recently suffered a heart attack and applied for health insurance on March 22.

According to her lawyer, Maung Swe, Daw Nwe Aung suffered from a heart attack while in prison.   Daw Nwe Aung had been charged under the Terrorism Act, and a  court appearance was rescheduled for March 29th.    A court decision regarding the granting of  bail is expected to be made that day.

"Daw Nwe Nwe Aung applied for insurance at this week's office appointment. A decision could be made on whether or not to grant bail on the 29th. Health is good except for heart disease. She also gets to see her family.  It is unlikely that she will be released on bail," said a representative of the court.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung was arrested by security forces on November 27, 2021 at her home in Mawlamyine Market.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung was charged under Section 52 (a) of the Anti-Terrorism Law on allegations of financing and cooperating with terrorist organizations.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, is a Member of State Hluttaw, representing Constituency No. 2, for the National League for Democracy ( NLD ), Mawlamyine Township. She is also party Chair.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, a lawyer, has served as a  member of Parliament since  2015.
