Tatmadaw Airstrikes Target Tanai Township

Tatmadaw airstrikes killed a Kachin Independence Army (KIA) soldier and a villager, destroying homes and a school in Kachin State’s Tanai (aka Danai) Township.

A civilian told KNG two jet fighters attacked on June 2 and the next day they witnessed four aircraft involved in strikes. A home burst into flames after a shell landed nearby, the source said, explaining that more houses in the village might have suffered damages.

According to a source from Tanai town, half of Daru village fled there after the attack.

The village, which is about 30 miles west of Tanai, in Hukawng Valley, used to be controlled by KIA until Burma Army seized the valley in 2018. Kachin soldiers, however, are still active in the region.

After the military coup, fighting between KIA and Tatmadaw broke out along the Lido Road, located in Hukawng Valley.
