Soldiers shot and killed a couple on their motorbike selling milk in a town on the Burma-India border.

A local man knowledgeable about the incident told Khonumthung News the husband and wife were killed near the Per Hel Bridge connecting Namhpalon with Tamu, in Sagaing District, at about 11 am on April 13.

Kishan Goutam and Harimaya Goutam are from the Burmese Gurkha community. They live in Myoma Ward-2.

According to other news sources, their bodies were left in a ditch until being sent to a hospital morgue by a relief group. The couple has one daughter and two sons.

On the same day, armed forces arrested Ko Hlaing Moe, owner of Mya Theingi tea shop in Tamu, and dragged him away by a rope. At press time, Khonumthung News couldn’t confirm why he was arrested.

In Hakha, the capital of Chin State, soldiers robbed a civilian of 1.3M kyat (USD $920) after running into his car with their military vehicle.

Ko Nyi told Khonumthung News that soldiers beat him after their vehicle crashed into his. “I apologized to them by bowing, and they kicked me with their military boots and then arrested me. When I was released the next morning, the 1.3 million kyats that were inside my car were missing.”

After asking about the missing funds, he was told the military wasn’t responsible for the theft. The army wants Ko Nyi to pay for damages to its vehicle, but he refused until his money is returned.

At least five people were arrested in the Chin State capital on April 13 during raids on homes. Armed forces destroyed properties in two houses while conducting searches.
