Republic Day of India Celebration in Mandalay

Consulate General of India, Mandalay celebrated Republic Day of India (Flag Hoisting Ceremony) at India House, Chan Mya Thazi, Mandalay which was attended by about 450 persons of Indian origin community and friends of India from Mandalay and many other towns of Upper Myanmar including Monywa, Myingyan, Meikhtila, Mogok, Pyo Oo Lwin, Kyaske, Sagaing, Kalay, Tamu, Tonzyyi, Thazi, Pakokku, Magway, Salin, Yathao etc.  Archaeological Survey of India team, Indian nationals working in various IT & other Indian companies also attended. Consul General H.E. Mr. Nandan Singh Bhaisora hoisted the Indian flag and also read the speech of the President. This was followed by cultural programmes by the children, presentation of awards/certificates.

In his interview with the media, the Consul General said that the objective of the celebration of Republic Day is to remember with gratitude the sacrifices of millions of freedom fighters which resulted in creation of an independent nation and subsequently a Republic 70 years ago; he also said that on this day people of India gave themselves  a constitution  which ensures  its citizens liberty, equality, justice and economic & gender equity . He also mentioned  that particularly after opening the international land border between both the countries at Tamu Moreh, it has greatly contributed to  increased trade, cultural exchanges, exchange of football teams,  trade delegations, medical tourism, pilgrimage tourism, people to people movement on both sides of the border as people are using the land border for visiting both countries.

He also mentioned that there is a large Indian community in Upper Myanmar and Consulate was arranging various cultural programmes so that the young generation of the Indian diaspora remains connected with the great Indian culture.
