After village administrator of Phone Thar Wa village tract in Minbya Township was shot and killed by a Tatmadaw column on 11 December night, other village administrators are concerned for their safety and want to resign.

Attacking village administrators who are working for regional stability is an attempt to disrupt the administrative mechanism, said U Oo Shwe Win, administrator of Pwint Htee village, Minbya Township.

“If they need to fight, they can fight between themselves. They should not attack village administrators,” he said.

Village administrators from Minbya Township have planned to resign if authorities will not take action against those who killed U Nyan Thein. They are going to report their complaints to the President’s Office to take effective action on the offenders.

“We are not satisfied the death of the village administrator. We do not want to work as village administrator,” U Oo Shwe Win said.

U Maung Bu Shwe, administrator of Pyitawtha village in Minbya Township, said that the Tatmadaw’s accusation of village administrator of having ties to the AA makes matter worse.

“We are worried that we will be killed,” he said.
