Burma Army Launches Attack on KIO Administration Office

The Burma Army opened fire with heavy weapons directed toward the hilltop site of the Kachin Independence Organization’s (KIO) general administration office in Laiza, Kachin State at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, KIO officials said.

“The Burma Army opened fire with at least eight rounds of artillery. Some people have fled,” a Kachin Independence Army officer told KNG on the condition of anonymity.

The location is the proposed site at which the KIO is preparing to hold a Thanksgiving event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Department of General Administration (DGA) from November 14-15.

At the time of reporting, the KIO is yet to release an official statement about the attack.
