The Burma Army opened fire with heavy weapons directed toward the hilltop site of the Kachin Independence Organization’s (KIO) general administration office in Laiza, Kachin State at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, KIO officials said.

“The Burma Army opened fire with at least eight rounds of artillery. Some people have fled,” a Kachin Independence Army officer told KNG on the condition of anonymity.

The location is the proposed site at which the KIO is preparing to hold a Thanksgiving event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Department of General Administration (DGA) from November 14-15.

At the time of reporting, the KIO is yet to release an official statement about the attack.
