Listing the disabled at IDP camps

In order to provide aid for persons with disabilities in IDP camps in northern Arakan State, lists of disabled people are being collected as of this month, according to the Arakan State Association for Persons with Disabilities.

Lists have already been compiled from four of nine IDP camps in Minbya Township.

Members are collecting lists of people with disabilities in other townships where IDP camps are open, said U Hla Myint, chairperson of the Arakan State Association for Persons with Disabilities.

“We do not have a budget for this process. They have to use their own money to compile lists of disabled people in IDP camps. So, I offered to help them as much as possible,” he said.

Some IDPs with disabilities are not provided separate aid, the association said.

The association will submit the lists to the Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities so that the federation will provide aid for them, U Hla Myint said.

He added that the association will prepare to provide aid for emotionally or physically affected IDPs.

The ongoing fighting between the Tatmadaw and the AA in northern Arakan State has been intensifying which has increased the number of IDPs to nearly 60,000.
