Detained teacher provided medical treatment at military hospital

A primary school teacher from Buthidaung Township who has been accused under Counter-Terrorism Law has been provided medical treatment at a military hospital on 15 August.

Ko Naing Aung Tun, a teacher from Kyauk Yan village, took radiographic at Buthidaung Township Tatmadaw’s hospital because he felt hurt in his body, then the doctor recommended to take medical treatment at hospital, his family said.

He was sent to the military hospital in Buthidaung Township, said an officer from No.3 Border Guard Force.

“He is given medical treatment. He is at the military hospital now,” the officer said.

The family of the teacher wanted him to give medical treatment at public hospital so that they could closely help him.

He has swollen face because he was beaten during interrogation, his father U Ba Than Maung said.

“As they beat and tortured him, he has bruises and contusion. I don’t know what to do. I sent a letter to education officer and lawmakers about his case,” U Ba Than Maung said.

The teacher, Kyauk Yan village administrator U San Maung and villager U Kyaw Thu Soe, Maung Tun Sein from Thayetpyin village and Maung Phyu Daung from Phone Nyo Late village were arrested on 9 and 10 August and have been charged under section 50(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. They were remanded on 13 August.

Moreover, U Nay Zaw Lin, another primary school teacher from Pyin Chaung village, Buthidaung Township, was arrested on 7 August, has been charged under section 50 (a) and 5 12 (b) of the Counter-Terrorism Law and has been facing trial.
