The perpetrator threw a grenade from a motorbike at the headman’s house, injuring two bystanders.

A bomb blast on the grounds of the home of a village headman in northern Shan State’s Namtu Township injured two civilians, including one monk.

An as-yet unidentified individual threw a grenade into the compound of U Hpoe Htaung in Mansam village on the evening of April 8. According to locals, a monk—U Mulaneda—and a villager—Maung Nge—were injured when they grenade exploded as they passed by the headman’s home.

“The bomb went off when a motorbike passed in in front of the house. The monk U Mulaneda got injuries to his back in the blast. Maung Nge also got injured, on his legs. Luckily, the bomb was not big,” a Mansam woman close to the headman told SHAN.

She said that both men have been admitted to the Lashio hospital for treatment, where they remain.

Local authorities have yet to identify a suspect in the grenade attack.
