The State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will visit Kanpetlet, Chin State but the date has not been confirmed yet, the Chin State Hluttaw Deputy Speaker U Aung Than said.
“[She] will come but we don’t know when she will come. She will be visiting Kanpetlet. I think she will also climb Mt. Khonuamthung. Daw Khin Kyi Foundation has donated a school in a village in Mindat Township. I heard that she wants to go there but the road is bad so I don’t think she will be able to visit it. She won’t visit Matupi,” said U Aung Than.
While the November by-election is drawing closer, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP)’s chair and members visited Kanpetlet and attended a public meeting and introduced the candidates.
Regional and state ministers from the National League for Democracy (NLD) have also campaigned in the township last week.
The Chin National Democratic Party, the Chin Progressive Party, the Union Solidarity and Development Party, and the National League for Democracy will run in Kanpetlet Township for the by-election.
Although Kanpetlet Township and Matupi Township each has a vacant seat for the by-election in the Chin State, most of the party leaders have only visited Kanpetlet, which has a vacant seat in the Lower House (Pyithu Hluttaw).
