The State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s peace talk in the Karen (Kayin) State’s capital Hpa-an has been postponed indefinitely due to bad weather, the Karen State Minister of Bamar Affairs U Tayza Hlaing Htwe said.

“It’s inconvenient to come here due to heavy rain. The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced that there will be a storm up to the 27th (July 27). Weather is the main reason [for the postponement],” he told KIC News.

The peace talk was originally scheduled to be held between the State Counsellor and local ethnic youths, computer experts, and civil society organizations at Zwekabin Hall on July 26.

The peace talk has been held seven times since 2017, twice in Naypyidaw and once in Panglong, Shan State, Myay Tai Kan Village of Wundwin Township, Mandalay Region, Loikaw, Karenni (Kayah) State, Myaungmya Township, Ayeyarwady Region, and Mawlamyine, Mon State.
