Hundreds of Namtu residents flee from northern clashes

Hundreds of local residents working in agricultural industry have been forced to flee from the clashes in Namtu Township, northern Shan State on the morning of 16 July.

Over 270 residents – over 120 men and over 140 women - have been displaced by the fighting between the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS/SSA) in Namtu Township on July 16, according to an international aids association

The residents of Wan Pong, Man Mai, Hsan Hkar, Nawng Ngin, Nar Hoke, and Nam Hsi Lin villages fled to Pang Long Monastery and the residents of Kawng Huong, Long Meik, and Mong Mu villages fled to Man San Kyaung Haung Monastery since yesterday morning.

The Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army announced that it is investigating the clashes in Namtu Township and its central headquarters has not given them any instruction to engage in the fighting.

However, the RCSS claimed that the Northern Alliance members including the SSPP/SSA have been blocking and attacking the RCSS/SSA.

The RCSS/SSA and the Tatmadaw and the SSPP/SSA and the TNLA, which are members of the Northern Alliance, are active in this area.
