The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has decided to contest for the majority of vacant seats in the by-election to be held in November.

The by-elections will be held on November 3.

There is a vacant seat for the Upper House, four for the Lower House and eight for regional parliaments.

"We will contest the by-election except for some seats. We will give ethnic parties a favour in their areas, so we will not contest in some ethnic areas," USDP spokesperson Dr. Nanda Hla Myint told Mizzima on July 5.

He said that the reason why the party decided to contest the by-election is due to the desires of local party leaders and community leaders.

The ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) has said earlier that NLD will contest for all vacant seats in the by-election.
