An economic zone will be built in the Paletwa Town, Chin State, for the easier trading as the town has the potential to become an important economic zone for the Asean, the Chin State government’s spokesperson Salai Issac Khen said on February 25.

“The area of Paletwa town has been expanded from 165 acres to 3,700 acres. This will include technical institutes. We expect it to become a sea-port. When the road condition improves in Hakha, Thahtlang, Matupi, and Paletwa, goods from [these towns] will flow in. We want [the goods] to reach the Asean. [Paletwa] can become an Asean economic zone,” said Salai Issac Khen, who is also the Chin State Minister of Municipal Affairs, Electricity and Industry.

The Chin State government’s spokesperson told this to the media during the meeting held by the Chin Media Network at GBH Hotel in Kalay town.

“We can’t build it (economic zone) in Hakha and Falam. We tried to do it in Khaikam. We are trying to build a storage zone in Khaikam. When we do this in Khaikham, we can control the market. Fruits from Falam and Tedim will flow in. We can manage the market no matter where we export them,” the minister continued.

Paletwa Town is a hub for border trading with India and Bangladesh and a port is currently being construct in the town.
