The Kayah State Forest Department seized 100 pieces of Padauk timber and 12.638 tons of timber in Htee-thea-ka-loe Village in Demoso Township, Kayah (Karenni) State at over 3 PM on February 22.

U Zaw Oo, the Director of the Kayah State Forest Department, said a team of 16 forestry officers and 13 soldiers led by Captain Kaung Khant from the Tatmadaw 102nd battalion made the seizure after receiving a report from a dutiful citizen.

“We are still investigating the link. We don’t know in details yet. [The timber] was seized at the foothill so we couldn’t investigate. We have currently seized it as ownerless,” the director said.

The seized timber has been transferred to Loikaw timber extraction area under Myanmar Timber Enterprise.
