Rape cases occurred topmost out of ten serious crimes in Mon State last year

Rapes are the most frequent crimes out of 136 crimes in the Mon State last year, according to the Mon State Police Force.

Among the ten types of crimes, 61 rapes, 54 homicides, 14 robberies, one dacoity, one kidnapping, one burglary, one animal theft, and three cases under The Unlawful Associations Act took place in the state, and there were no unlawful weapon possession and treason cases, according to Police Sergeant Khin Zaw Win from the Mon State Police Force.

“Crimes increased compared to last year. Rapes rank the top, followed by homicides. But the number of homicides was eight cases lower than last year,” he said.

According to statistics from the police, 123 crimes took place in 2016 - 62 homicides, 53 rapes, two robberies, three animal thefts, one illegal weapon possession, and two cases under unlawful associations act.

Police Sergeant Khin Zaw Win said the state police have been raising awareness against drugs, human trafficking, domestic crimes, and underage rapes in respective townships using the crime exhibition vehicles in order to reduce crimes.
