Twelve Rakhine youths from Sommona Village tortured three Rohingya villagers who were collecting firewood in the forest in Maungdaw Township in Arakan State, according to Mohin, a Rohingya from Aley Than Kyaw.

He said that on 26 December at about 8:00am seven Rohingya villagers from Khonzabill Village Aley Than Kyaw Village Tract in Maungdaw Township  went to collect firewood in the forest when they were attacked by 12 Rakhine youths armed with swords, knives and catapults who captured and severely beat and tortured three of them.

The other four Rohingyas managed to run away and evade capture.

The three captured victims were identified as Abdul Amin (18), son of Mahason, Anayatullah (20), son of Bozzama and Rahamat Ullah (22), son of Bozzama.

They were later released and are now receiving treatment in Khonzabill Village because they were unable to get proper treatment in a government hospital, said one of their relatives on condition of anonymity.
