Around 50 residents in Myitkyina Township, Kachin State, staged a protest against Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang over attempts to negotiate the controversial Myitsone dam project, state media reported on 5 June.

The protest came a day after a Chinese delegation comprising the ambassador and members of China Power Investment (CPI), which is overseeing the project, visited residents who were relocated due to the dam.

The protest took place outside the Palm Spring Resort in Myitkyina where the delegation was holding discussions on the project with local authorities.
