The Mon State government has put forward a name to fill the Minister for Construction post, which has been vacant since a resignation earlier this year amid allegations of corruption and misconduct.

On June 7, Chief Minister U Aye Zan nominated U Min Kyaw Lwin, a Mon State native and engineer by training who has worked with the Yangon City Development Committee.

“His educational background is suitable,” U Aye Zan told the state Hluttaw. U Min Kyaw Lwin is from Chaungzone township’s Ywar Lut Village.

“I want to use my knowledge and skills to carry out urban and regional development. I want to pursue all-round development harmoniously without any waste,” he said.

U Min Kyaw Lwin graduated from the Rangoon Institute of Technology with a degree in civil engineering in 1984. The resume submitted to parliament says that he is a professional engineer (construction) and a certified civil engineer recognized by the ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineers Coordinating Committee. He is also a member of the Myanmar Engineers Association, and holds a senior engineer license from the YCDC.

He applied for National League for Democracy membership in November 2015.

The state’s development and construction ministry was previous headed by Chief Minister U Min Min Oo, who resigned in February.

The Mon State cabinet currently has 13 members, including U Aye Zan who replaced U Min Min Oo as chief minister.
