The Mon State Hluttaw has received over 700 complaint letters from the public within almost 9 months since it has taken office.

The new Mon State Hluttaw started its first conference on February 8, and through the end of October, it has received 706 complaint letters from the public, including land issues and environment protection issues.

“Most of the complaint letters that we have received are about land issues,” said Dr. Aung Naing Oo, deputy speaker of Mon State Hluttaw. “When we get the letters, we inform respective government groups and give advice to them, but it’s their responsibility to resolve [the complaints].”

The Deputy Speaker went on to say that the complaint letters received by the State Hluttaw are mostly about land issues, environment protection matters, and personal matters.

The previous Mon State Hluttaw received 1,661 letters from the public during its entire five-year term. Of those 1,661 letters, only 370 issues were resolved by the Hluttaw in cooperation with the state government, according to Mon State Hluttaw’s records.

“Our committee has received 400 letters,” said U Aung Kyaw Thu, the Chairman of Complaint and Appeal Letters Review and Assessment Committee. “Most are about land issues and so far, we have resolved 50% of them.”

Mon State Hluttaw Affair Committee has 6 committees: the Representative Review Committee, Ethnic Nationalities Affair Committee, Law-consulting Review Committee, Finance Project and Economics Committee, Environment Conservation Committee, and the Complaint and Appeal Letter Review and Assessment Committee.
