A raid on the home of U Hla Htein, the Ward 1 administrator of Kawsar Town in Ye Township, Mon State uncovered a revolver and ammunition according to the Ye Township Police Chief.
A joint-force from Military Operation Command (MOC-19), based in Ye Town, and Infantry Battalion No. (IB) 31 based in Kawsar Town, raided the ward administrator’s house, in Kawsar Town on the night of 15 December. A revolver and 19 bullets were seized from the house.
Police Chief Myint Taw. said: “Now, an investigation is being conducted at Ye Police Station."
The Kawsar area in southern Ye Township, Mon State and other regions in northern Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division are home to active armed rebel groups who travel through the jungle and remain largely anonymous. Recently, such unknown armed groups extorted orchard owners.
At present an armed group led by Mon Chan is very active in the Kawsar area. According to the Kanswar Town Administration Mon Chan's phone number was found in U Hla Htein's contact list.
U Hla Htein has been charged under article (Pa) 28/2015 19 (Sa), and the case is now under investigation by Ye Town Police.
After the New Mon State Party signed a ceasefire agreement with the government in 1995, several small Mon armed groups that extort, loot and commandeer from locals have been active in the south of Ye Township in Mon State and in northern Yebyu Township in Tenasserim Division.
