Ten representatives have been vetted and approved to represent Kayin (Karen) State civil society organizations at an upcoming Union-level peace conference.

The representatives – one for each of the state’s seven townships as well a three reserves – were chosen during an April 4-5 meeting in Hpa-an, according to one of the organizers, Saw Zaw Lin.

The representatives will participate in the Union-level CSO forum to be held in conjunction with the next Union Peace Conference, tentatively scheduled for May.

“The [Kayin State] representatives selected from each township were chosen because they can best represent his or her township,” said Naw Ta Kaw Htoo, one of the selected representatives, and a member of 88 Generation Peace and Open Society in Kawkareik township.
