CSOs unite to facilitate return of displaced residents to Falam

Civil society organizations (CSOs) based in Falam Township, Chin State, led by the Falam Christian Ministers Fellowship (FCMF), announced on May 20 that they will coordinate and facilitate a smooth return for residents of Falam Town, the township's administrative seat.

The process of returning residents to Falam Town is expected to take about four months, with the first phase set to begin as soon as officials give the green light for people to return.

A cash grant of MMK 25,000 will be provided to those returning to Falam Town by motorbike from any location. A truck and a minibus will operate once a week to assist elderly Falam residents sheltering in Kale Township, Sagaing Region, in returning home. In addition, vehicles will be made available from Hakha, the capital of Chin State, to Falam as needed.

Those returning to Falam will be eligible for a one-time purchase of one bag of rice, 1 viss (about 1.6 kilograms) of beans, 1 viss of cooking oil and salt at half the market price. Any additional purchases will be made at the regular local market price.

Homes with damaged water pipes during the displacement period will receive 10 PVC 8.5 pipes and 10 pipe connectors for repairs. In addition, households facing difficulties reconnecting to electricity will be provided with a light bulb and a solar kit.

In addition, arrangements will be made to provide plastic sheets and tarpaulins at affordable prices for those who need to renovate their homes. A pharmacy will also be opened in the town to provide emergency medical supplies and medicines at affordable prices.

To ensure the successful implementation of the first phase, a total of four staff members will be appointed: one coordinator, two field workers, and one nurse.

FCMF-led CSOs strongly urge Falam natives around the world to unite in supporting the repatriation process.

The junta recently recaptured Falam Town from resistance forces, and hundreds of government employees and their families have since returned. The coup regime is now working to ensure that offices and schools can reopen by the end of May.
