Puppha Hongsar’s Foundation Provides Scholarships for Six Higher Education Students

The Puppha Hongsar’s Foundation for Education will provide scholarships for the first time to six students who are facing difficulties in pursuing higher education.

According to a Foundation official, the program will select one PhD student, one Master’s degree student, one Bachelor of Arts (B.A) student, and three diploma students to receive the scholarships.

The Founder of the Puppha Hongsar’s Foundation for Education said, “Support like this is still limited among the Mon community. As people who have gone through higher education ourselves, we hope more people will recognise the value of education, and we also aim to encourage similar educational support efforts in different regions.”

Last January, the Puppha Hongsar Foundation signed an MoU with educational departments and colleges under Maha Chulalongkorn Rajavidyalaya University to begin supporting Mon students facing difficulties in accessing higher education through scholarship programs.

Foundation officials stated that the scholarships are calculated based on the tuition rates of the Maha Chulalongkorn Rajavidyalaya University; however, selected students will be permitted to study at any university of their choice.

Written exams and interviews for the scholarship selection process will be held in the first week of May, while the names of selected students will be announced during the Summer Mon Literature School closing ceremony in Thanbyuzayat in the second week of May.

The Founder of Puppha Houngsar’s Foundation stated that applicants must be Mon, proficient in Mon literature and language, and willing to utilise their education to contribute to their community, religion, and public benefit alongside the foundation after completing their studies.

The foundation also announced that laypeople, monks, novice monks, and nuns who are interested in the scholarship program are eligible to apply.

The Puppha Hongsar’s Foundation was established in 2021 to support monastic education, university education, Mon national education, and regional natural disaster relief efforts.

The foundation is also an educational organisation that continuously provides free educational classes and community-based Summer Mon literature courses in different regions.
