Four members of single family killed in Hakha Township village airstrike

Airstrikes carried out by the junta on two villages in Hakha Township, Chin State, killed a woman and her two children, and later claimed the life of her husband, who died from serious injuries while being transported to the hospital, bringing the death toll to four members of a single family.

Around midnight on January 4 and in the early morning of January 5, the junta carried out airstrikes on Halta and Haiphai villages in Hakha Township.

In Halta village, a bomb hit a family home, killing 40-year-old Te Tum and her two sons, and seriously injuring her husband, who was struck by shrapnel. The injured man later succumbed to his wounds while being transported to a hospital in Hakha City, about 70 miles away, around noon on January 5.

“He died on the way to Hakha Hospital, around noon. The villagers brought his body back to the village. The road is really rough, and it usually takes about six hours to get from the village to Hakha,” said a Halta villager.

The junta carried out the airstrike despite there being no active clashes around Halta Village. The villagers buried the entire family, including a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old, on the evening of January 5.

Previously, on February 23, 2025, Halta Village was hit by a junta airstrike, injuring at least five residents and damaging two houses.

The airstrike on Haiphai Village caused no casualties, but damaged several houses and buildings
