Ongoing clashes between the military junta forces and allied resistance groups near Mile 60 village and Tharyar Mon village in Ye Township, Tanintharyi Region, have forced a temporary closure of the Ye–Dawei Highway (Route No.8), leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded, according to local sources.

The fighting, which began around 9 a.m. on August 25, grew intense throughout the day. Resistance forces blocked the road section between Kyauk Ka Din and Lawt Thaing villages to ensure the safety of travelers, sources said.

As a result, a large number of private cars, passenger buses, and cargo trucks were stuck along the highway, with traffic disruptions lasting into the late afternoon of August 25, a Ye local reported.

“In the morning we heard mortar shell fire, and even around 4 p.m. we still heard gunfire. I also saw resistance troops reinforcing their positions with vehicles. The road remains closed, and the fighting hasn’t stopped yet,” said a local resident.

By the afternoon, the sounds of mortar shell explosions and small arms fire could still be heard, locals confirmed.

More than 1,000 residents from at least five villages in Ye Township have fled their homes due to the fighting. IMNA is continuing to verify the situation on the ground.

A local resident shared video footage showing long lines of passenger and cargo vehicles stranded on the Ye–Dawei Highway.
