Thai Military Bolsters Border Security as Fierce Fighting Continues near Myawaddy township.

Junta’s 257th Battalion Refuses to Surrender to Karen resistance.

The Thai military has reinforced border security and closely monitoring the situation. as Junta’s 257th battalion is fighting to regain their former military stronghold in Myawaddy, that is now mostly in the hands of Karen resistance forces.

The intensity of artillery fire in Myawaddy on April 10 reverberated across the border into Mae Sot, Thailand, prompting the deployment of Thai military artillery and machine guns beneath Myawaddy-Mae Sot Bridge No. 1, alongside heightened security measures with the deployment of military vehicles.

As of April 10, fires are burning in some parts of Myawaddy and clashes are ongoing, causing alarm among some residents of Mae Sot, on the other side of the border

Certain Thai media outlets have reported that the Thai military has dispatched fully armed special operations forces to the border in response to the intense clashes in Myawaddy.

About US$ 1.1 billion in goods passed through Myawaddy over the past year, according to the junta-controlled Commerce Ministry.

In Myawaddy District, resistance forces seized control of some Junta bases, notably the pivotal Thingannyinaung tactical command centre, following an offensive launched on April 6.

Karen media have reported the junta has dispatched about 100 military trucks and armoured vehicles to Myawaddy from Hpa-an to reinforce the beleaguered 257 the battalion.
