Young Worker Killed in Junta Drone Strike on Ramree Island Oil Field

Maung Sar Ga — A 19-year-old oil field worker was killed on June 5 when Myanmar junta forces launched multiple drone strikes on Leytaung town, located on Ramree Island.

The victim was identified as Maung Kyi Aye, a resident of Kyauk Paek Village who had moved to Lay Taung to work in the local oil industry.

According to sources, junta forces targeted an oil drilling site in Taw Lay Village (Ward No. 2, Leytaung) between 5:07 PM and 5:30 PM, dropping four explosives from drones.

Maung Kyi Aye suffered a direct hit to the left side of his chest. He succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.

Following the drone strikes, a junta naval vessel stationed nearby fired seven heavy artillery shells into the area.

This attack follows a string of recent junta strikes in the region:

On June 4, Junta forces targeted Ward No. 4 in Leytaung with two drone strikes, killing one cow and severely injuring another belonging to a local resident, U Kyaw Min Tun.

On June 1, a  junta airstrike targeted an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp located between Kula Ling Taung and Yang Nyinggyi villages, killing two refugees and injuring five others.
