Young Man Killed, Another Wounded After Treading on Landmine Near Tat Taung Town in Ann

A young man was fatally injured, and another was hurt after stepping on a landmine close to Tat Taung Town in Ann Township, Arakan State.

The deceased has been recognized as 18-year-old Ko Nyi Nyi Soe from Ward No. 3 in Tat Taung Town. The person injured was 18-year-old Ko Kyaw Win Tun.

At approximately 5:30 pm on February 16, they were on their way to a mountain close to Tat Taung Town, where the Telenor tower is situated, to collect jackfruits when they triggered a landmine placed by junta forces.

The landmine detonation resulted in Ko Nyi Nyi Soe being hit by shrapnel, which led to the amputation of his right leg and serious injuries throughout his body, ultimately causing his death at the location.

Ko Kyaw Win Tun sustained injuries from shrapnel in his left hand, right thigh, and back.

On December 20, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) completely took over Ann Township, which includes Tat Taung Town.

Data gathered by Narinjara News indicates that between February 1 and February 14, seven civilians lost their lives and 17 more were injured due to leftover bomb and landmine blasts throughout Arakan State.
