The Women’s Party (Mon), a Mon political party, will run in the upcoming 2020 Election, the party’s chair Mi Than Shin confirmed to Hinthar Media on June 7.

She said the party will not run in areas that will be contested by other Mon parties in order to prevent the votes from becoming split up and it will only run in vacant areas.

“If we don’t’ run in the election, this party will become abolished,” said Mi Than Shin.

She continued that the party does not have any plan to cooperate with the Mon National Representative Party, which will be newly established, and it has been preparing for the election just like other parties.

She is proud that her party is the first women’s party among the Mon people and it is a dignity of the Mon people, she added.

When Hinthar Media contacted Nai Ta Lah Nyi, who is trying to establish the Mon National Representative Party, to ask about his opinion on the issue of the Women’s Party (Mon) running in the election, he said they have no comment as they are trying to establish the party and it is up to the Women’s Party (Mon) to run in the election.

The Mon National Party (MNP), the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMRDP), and the Women’s Party (Mon) have officially registered with the Union Election Commission in the Mon State.

The MNA ran in 35 constituencies and won only a seat in the Amyotha Hluttaw and two seats in the State Hluttaw while the AMRDP also ran in 35 constituencies and only won a seat in the State Hluttaw during the 2015 Election.

The Women’s Party did not win any seats.
