After a controversy over its name, leading to its cancellation in January, the Manau festival in Myitkyina has been rescheduled from February 5 to 12.

Ginraw Tang Gun, from the organizing committee, told KNG they wanted the festival now called, Kachin Traditional Manau Festival, to run from February 1 to 8, but the state government wanted it held from the 5th to the 12th, with the last day commemorating the 73th anniversary of Union Day.

Kachin are made up of six  groups: Lisu, Rawang, Lachid, Lhaovo, Jinghpaw and Zaiwa.

Ginraw Tang Gun said the festival will represent the six main Kachin groups, but it will also be open to the other ethnic groups residing in Kachin State.

On the closing day,  Kachin State Chief Minister Dr. Hkyet Awng (Khet Aung) will read a felicitation letter from the president of Burma.

The Kachin Culture and Tradition Committee are organizing the Kachin Traditional Manau Festival set to take place in the Manau Ground in Myitkyina. There will be traditional food  available, as well as dancing and other activities.

The 59th Kachin Revolution Day is on February 5.
