Two Yangon PDF fighters sentenced to 74 years imprisonment by Myanmar junta

Yangon Revolution Force (YRF) has announced that two of its members Sit Zaw Kan and Banyar Soe Htet were sentenced to 74 years in prison each by the Military Council authorities.

In addition, another YRF member, Ei Kyaw Phyo, was sentenced to seven years in prison, and a civilian, Sai Si Thu, was sentenced to 40 years.

According to YRF, the Military Council sentenced all four of them on 29 December 2022 at Insein Prison Court.

They were arrested and convicted by the Military Council over claims that they assassinated a retired Mytel CEO, and sentenced to long prison terms.

A final-year student of Yangon Western University said the sentences were extreme.

This was a life sentence, he said, adding they had been committed to getting ride of the military junta.

The YRF said they recognized and respected those who were put behind bars unjustly and vowed to annihilate the military dictatorship.

According to information from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), around 140 people who opposed the coup, including young students, were sentenced to death by the Military Council after the coup. More than 2,600 people were killed and over 13,000 were arrested during the nearly two-year post-coup period in Myanmar.
