Two women killed in a robbery in Mandalay

Two women were reportedly murdered during a burglary in Mandalay city early on 6 October, according to local people.

Mandalay-based local news sources said the criminals reportedly broke into a house that houses a drugstore between 118th and 119th streets, 72nd road, and Ngwe Taw Kyi Gone ward of Pyi Gyi Takon Township at around 4 am.

"The robbers broke into the Thiri pharmacy. They also murdered innocents. The victims were two female drugstore owners who were both female. The Military Council troops are currently blocking the road and conducting investigations,” said a resident of Ngwe Taw Kyi Gone ward.

According to the person who has a close relationship with the police station, gold and silver items were stolen during the robbery. The criminals are said to be neighbours of two victims and also lived in Ngwe Taw Kyi Gone ward.

"The thieves asked that the owner purchase medications before killing the two women and robbing them of victims of silver and gold items. On 6 October, around 9 am, the Pyi Gyi Takon Township police department apprehended the culprits,” said to a person with a close connection to the police station.

The names and ages of the two victims, as well as the amount of valuables stolen, have not yet been revealed by the authorities.
