Two villagers injured during fighting near Pyin Chaung village

A man and a woman were injured from a clash between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army (AA) at around 1 p.m. on October 17 near Pyin Chaung village in Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State.

An anonymous local said that as a Tatmadaw unit crossed over Oh Laut creek near Pyin Chaung village, an explosion took place. After the blast, two groups had a clash and injured two villagers.

“As the Tatmadaw was coming from the east side of the village on the other side of the creek, the explosion took place. I think their plan was to cross over the creek,” the local said.

The injured are U Tun Hlaing and Daw Mya Yi, the man has stomach injuries and the woman received injuries to her neck.

U Tun Hlaing was in serious condition, so villagers had arranged to take him to the hospital quickly.

According to locals, after being attacked by explosives, the Tatmadaw and AA responded to by shooting at each other, consequentially some bullets landed inside the village.

The head monk of Pyin Chaung village monastic school said that the bullets lodged in the roof of student building and left the holes.

“The building for female students is damaged with holes in the roof. They are now staying at Dama Yone [community hall for religious purposes]. Nobody was injured or died. The whole accident took about 10 minutes,” the monk said.
