Two Myanmar soldiers killed, including an army major, in Yangon’s Sanchaung township

Two Myanmar junta soldiers were killed and there was an exchange of gunfire in an attack in Sanchaung township in Yangon on September 9, according to news just in.

Two grenades were thrown at a junta vehicle, which was providing security near the intersection of Baho road and Bakayar road in Sanchaung township, Yangon Region.

The incident took place at around 4 pm, killing two military junta soldiers, including Major Than Kyaw Khaing from Infantry Regiment No (139), according to a source close to the military.

"The army said that a major and a private were hit. Later, one of the people shot was known as the Deputy Battalion Commander. The major was shot and died on the spot. He is over 30 years old,” the local source said.

The source, close to the army, said, "He died on the spot and was taken to hospital for the death certificate."

"Two bombs were thrown into the backseat. Someone in the front seat of a vehicle opened the door and shot back. The bomb did not explode. I heard that the driver was not dead,” the source added.

Sources close to the military told Mizzima that Major Than Kyaw Khaing was assigned to provide security in North Dagon Township.

There have been no comments from the People's Defense Forces and urban guerillas in Yangon on the attack. Infantry Regiment No (139) is a Thanlyin-based regiment under Yangon Command.

After the shooting, security checks were being tightened by military junta troops on the roads in Sanchaung and Kamaryut townships.

Gwa market in Sanchaung Township was reportedly ordered to close from morning until noon on September 10, and people on the main road were being checked by the military council’s troops.
