The MUC leader Nai Kyan Yit and the 21-member Mon representative party leader Nai Ta La Nyi signed the agreement after the dialogue was held at Taw Win Hinthar Hotel in Mawlamyine on Monday (August 6) afternoon.

“I can say that we were able to agree on 99 percent during the discussion with the Ramanya force, or the 21-member Mon representative, under the all-inclusiveness topic. I believe the aim to establish a single Mon party, which is desire by the entire Mon people, is successful,” said Nai Kyan Yit.

The two sides have agreed to merge and establish a single Mon Party, select and approve the new party’s name from 13 proposed names, and continue the dialogue on including the remaining forces in the establishment of the single Mon party and other points.

The 21-member Mon representative party leader Nai Ta La Nyi told the press that the party will no longer register with the Election Commission after reaching the agreement.

“We haven’t agreed on everything, but one can say the dialogue was successful. But, we haven’t reached a final agreement yet. We haven’t reached a final agreement on some points relating to time restriction, which has been demand by us,” said Nai Ye Zaw from the 21-member Mon representative party, who attended the dialogue.

The 21-member Mon representative party has proposed to register the new party within two months but it was told that both sides can contact each other anytime to continue the dialogue on the unfinished remaining points.

The New Mon State Party (NMSP)’s vice-chair Nai Hong Sar has recently urged the leaders of the AMDP and the MNP to work on cooperating with the remaining forces without delay while they are working on finalizing the merger.
