Two men were shot and killed by military junta troops in an ambush on Ye-Thanbyuzayat road in Mon State, according to local sources.

On the morning of September 24, around 8:00 a.m., military junta troops positioned on the Ye-Thanbyuzayat road opened fire on two men who were heading to Mawkanin Village from Myo Haung Kon Village.

The two men who were shot dead were reportedly young; however, their identities have not yet been confirmed, according to local sources.

“Military forces are everywhere on Ye road. Whenever they spot someone suspicious, they open fire. Some people panicked and tried to flee when they saw the soldiers, and that’s when they were shot at. We’ve heard about these incidents quite often,” said a local resident.

Junta-supporting Telegram channels claimed that the two men were members of the KNU/PDF and were shot dead when they attempted to flee after being ordered to stop for a check.

The channels also stated that military junta troops seized a Thailand-made improvised landmine, two fuses, around 40 feet of wire, a battery case, and two traditional Karen shirts from the two men.

The local resistance groups have not yet released any statement regarding the shooting of the two men on the Ye-Thanbyuzayat road.

On September 20, military junta troops hiding near the artillery base in Mawkanin Village shot and killed a member of the resistance forces who was riding a motorcycle.

The military junta has been attempting to regain control over the Thanbyuzayat-Ye-Dawei road, which is currently under the influence of resistance forces. They ambushed a military convoy and stationed its troops on higher ground along the route.

There is ongoing military tension between the junta troops and resistance joint forces along the Ye-Thanbyuzayat-Dawei road, with frequent armed clashes occurring in the area.
