Two children with dengue fever died in Maungdaw hospital

The number of children with dengue fever admitted to the Maungdaw hospital has reached 60 in July and two of them died, according to the Maungdaw Township hospital.

Dengue fever started to break out in Maunagdaw since May, the majority of the dengue fever patients are children under 15 years old, said Dr Nu Kaythi San, deputy head of the Department of Public Health in Maungdaw district.

“In May, there were three patients with dengue fever in Maungdaw. It became four in June. But, the number of dengue fever patients jumped to 58 in July,” she said.

The Maungdaw hospital is a 50-bed hospital and faces difficulties to accept many patients and the number of medical staff is insufficient, Dr Nu Kaythi San said.

Almost all people in Khone Daing village, northern Maungdaw Township, have currently been infected the dengue epidemic, most patients are children, said Ko Naw Yee from Khone Daing village.

In early June, seasonal influenza infected almost all people in Mawrawady village in southern Maungdaw Township.
