TNLA announces establishment of town administrations

The Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) said that it will collaborate with local communities to fully implement effective administrative systems in the towns it captured during Operation 1027.

The TNLA will establish an administrative mechanism for military-civilian cooperation, with the goal of forming an interim revolutionary government by 2025, according to the TNLA Secretary General Tar Bone Kyaw.

He said: "It’s our responsibility to manage the administration of the towns we’ve captured. We’ll do our utmost to govern the people, ensuring their livelihoods and the security of their lives and properties. Our political philosophy is to continue fighting the military dictatorship until it collapses. Once we achieve this, we’ll need to engage in political talks.”

According to a 27 August TNLA statement, the remarks were made on a trip between 15 and 18 August 2024, when Major General Tar Bone Kyaw met with the local population of the towns of Kyaukme and Mongmit (Momeik) in northern Shan State and Mogok in Mandalay Region, three towns captured by the TNLA during the second phase of Operation 1027.

During the trip, Major General Tar Bone Kyaw toured government buildings, administrative offices, hospitals, and schools in the three towns.

He also said: “We, the Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF), will lead the administration but will include local elders in advisory roles. If there are any mistakes in our administration, we welcome input from these elders to help correct them. It is everyone's responsibility to establish an efficient administrative system as quickly as possible, so we appeal to everyone for cooperation and support.

The PSLF is the political wing of the TNLA.

Brigadier General Tar Gu Jar, Head of the Administration Department of PSLF/TNLA, also urged local elders to fully cooperate in restoring the town's administrative systems so things go as smoothly and quickly as possible.

As well as capturing the towns of Kyaukme, Mongmit and Mogok during the second phase of Operation 1027, which began on 25 June, the TNLA and a coalition of people’s defence forces also captured the towns of Naungcho (Nawnghkio) and Hsipaw (Thibaw) in northern Shan State.
