Thanbaung Bali Bridge, in Ye Township Destroyed by Mine

The Thanbaung Bali Bridge was destroyed by an explosion at about 9.45 am yesterday (February 8) near Tawkamar village, Thingangyun village tract, Ye Township, Mon State.

The bridge was destroyed with a mine set by the Local Defense Force (PDF), according to the Ye Township Police.

" As soon as we were informed this morning, we had to go and see it. The PDFs made an announcement about the incident. This road and bridge were used as a transport route for military weapons --this is why it was destroyed," said a police representative.

The bridge spans the Thingangyun creek on the Ye-Mawlamyine railway and it was over 600 feet long.

Two steel frames supporting the bridge were broken due to the  landmine explosion. No one was injured in the incident.
