Teen shot in Kyauktaw Twsp, hospitalised in Sittwe

Min Tun — A 17-year-old from Lanmataw village in Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township sustained a gunshot wound on April 7 and is receiving medical treatment at Sittwe General Hospital.

The injured teenager was identified as Mg Nyi Aung Khant and he was admitted first to Kyauktaw Hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Sittwe medical facility due to the severity of his injury.

“My son was hit by the bullet and he had an injury to his right side of the back,” said U Than Maung, the father of Mg Nyi Aung Khant.

U Than Maung said there were no clashes near his village on the day of the incident. He added that his son was sitting in front of their house when he was struck by a bullet after gunfire was first heard from a nearby village.

The Burma Monitor research group stated on April 5 that 128 people were killed and 147 were injured in March due to fighting between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army across 10 townships in Arakan State and in Paletwa Township, Chin State.
