State Counsellor urges teachers to serve in remote areas

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has urged teachers especially younger ones to serve in remote areas.

“I’d like you to have the mindset and attitude of serving in remote areas where our fellow ethnic people are living in an underdeveloped and backward state.” Aung San Suu Kyi said.

She was speaking in an address delivered at Symposium for Implementing Basic Education Development Works’ held at MICC-2 in Naypyitaw today, December 4.

“I’d like teachers to see serving in remote areas as challenges to them. And also, they should see it as an opportunity. They should see serving in remote areas as an opportunity in their career. I’d like to see our young teachers have such noble and adventurous minds to serve in these remote areas,” she added.

Government servants including teachers face many challenges working in remote areas because of difficulty in transport, lack of security and difficulty in getting food supplies and accommodation.
