SNLD says it will fight all dictators

The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) political party will stand up for the rule of law, justice and fight against all dictators, said the party at the SNLD Annual Congress.

The Congress took place in Taunggyi District, southern Shan State on 26 and 27 May. The party released a statement after the end of the Congress.

“We say we must stand for justice and must fight to eradicate the dictator. We don’t just mean the military dictator, but all dictators who act like terrorists in our country. For example, if a future civilian-led government acts like terrorists we will fight them too”, said Sai Kyaw Nyunt, the SNLD’s joint Secretary (1).

The statement had eight points including points covering the current political process, federal constitutional issues, educational reform and ways to overthrow the military dictatorship.

During the Congress the SNLD said it would cooperate with other organisations to encourage national unity and end ongoing conflicts in Shan State and across the country.

The SNLD also stated that it has no connections with the Military Council and it often holds informal meetings revolutionary groups.

“We don’t have any contact with the military council. But we have informal meetings with revolutionary groups who are fighting for Democracy”, said Sai Kyaw Nyunt.
