Six undocumented individuals from the Rohingya community were arrested on June 19th at around 9:00 am at the Mayan Chaung checkpoint in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State.

According to sources close to the security team involved, the individuals were arrested when their vehicle driven by Myo Aung (ka) Shwe Mya, a 32-year-old driver, was being inspected at the checkpoint, on its way from Yangon to Myawaddy.

"When they went through the Mayan Chaung checkpoint, the security checked the vehicle and inspected underneath it, ultimately discovering something hidden in the lower part of the vehicle," said a person familiar with the security team.

At the time of publication, it is not known what was discovered or hidden in the vehicle.

Of those arrested,  four are men and two are women.

Officials are conducting an investigation.

In 2023, a minimum of 360 undocumented individuals from the Rohingya community were arrested in the townships of Thanphyuzayat, Mudon, and Mawlamyine in Mon State.

Since the military coup, members of the Rohingya community have been frequently arrested across the country.  Some have even been killed on site, with no consequences for their murder.
