Prominent political party in Shan State has decided not to register at Union Election Commission under junta regime for the planned elections.

The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) made this decision during the two-day meeting of central committee on 16 and 17 March.

Sai Leik, the General Secretary of SNLD, confirmed it to the Shan Herald Agency for News on 18 March evening.

The SNLD secured parliamentary seats for 42 constituencies in 2020 General Election, standing third in winning majority votes at the national level.

The military regime announced that nearly 30 political parties have registered at the Union Election Commission from 1 to 17 February this year, and 12 of them are ethnic parties.

The junta has set the deadline of 28 March for political party registration, and then unregistered parties will   automatically dissolve.
