Seven Farmers In Kutkai Township Injured In Bomb Explosion

Seven people were injured in a bomb explosion on a farm in Kutkai Township in northern Shan State.

The Metta Shin Social Volunteer Team told SHAN two men and five women were hurt when the bomb exploded near Nam Kwam village around noon time this Wednesday (July 8).

Five of the farmers sustained serious injuries and were sent to Lashio Public Hospital for treatment by the CSO and Garuna Social Volunteer Team.

SHAN contacted a police station in Kutkai Township for comment, but no-one responded.

The Metta Shin Social Volunteer Team says the explosion wasn’t caused by a landmine. It was caused by unearthed ammunition and explosives left by one of the many armed groups that are active in the area.

The Burma Army has been fighting with the Ta’ang National Liberation Army in Kutkai Township. Villagers are afraid after the Tatmadaw reportedly sent for more reinforcements.
