SAC-M seeks to designate military council as terrorist group

The Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) has called on the UN and ASEAN to hold the military council accountable for its atrocities against students and teachers and asked the Security Council to add the military council to the list of terrorist organizations.

The SAC-M claimed that the beheading of a school teacher of National Unity Government (NUG) by military forces was a terrorist crime that was against both international law and Myanmar's legal system.

The SAC-M added that the military council utilizes harsh tactics to frighten the people and that its targeted attacks on schools are in violation of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Military Council cannot be labeled as a terrorist organization, according to political analyst U Than Soe Naing, because Russia and China have the power to veto at UN Security Council.

The Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) urges the UN Security Council to impose financial and economic sanctions, to ban arms sales to the military council to protect the Myanmar people, and to refer the Myanmar issue to the International Court of Justice (ICC).

SAC-M also pressured ASEAN to officially engage with the National Unity Government (NUG) and requested the United Nations to recognize NUG ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar's representative to the UN.

The Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) was formed in Malaysia to make specific decisions for Myanmar, because  the democratic movement and crimes erupted in the country after the military coup.
