Resistance groups fighting Burma army in northern Kalay Township, at least seven junta soldiers killed

On 5 April, the Chinland Defnese Force – Kalay, Kabaw, Gangaw (CDF – KKG) reported that at least seven Burma army soldiers were killed during clashes around Tuingo village in northern Kalay Township since the start of April.

On 31 March, a Burma army military column was traveling from Nan Soung Pu village to Tuingo village in northern Kalay Township. The CDF – KKG reported that their troops exchanged gunfire with a combined force of Burma army and Pyusawhtee People’s Militia Force (Pyusawhtee PMF) near the graveyard in Tuingo village for approximately three hours.

After this clash, additional resistance forces joined the CDF – KKG to fight against the Burma army and Pyusawhtee PMF in northern Kalay Township. The additional groups included the Chin National Defense Force, Kalay PDF, Tarhan Chinland Defense Force, Harmonious Northern Brotherhood, People’s Defense Army, Local PDF, Civil Defense Militia – Siyin and Civilian Resistance.

The CDF – KKG said that the Burma army launched airstrikes against the resistance groups after suffering many causalities. The Burma army also attacked resistance groups with artillery, 120 mm mortar and 122 mm multiple rocket launchers.

The CDF – KKG reported that they found seven dead Burma army soldiers. One CDF – KKG soldier suffered minor injuries during the clashes. Resistance groups retrieved a MA-3 rifle, ammunition, and other equipment.

Local people said that some civilian houses in Tuingo village were damaged by the Burma army’s artillery attacks and airstrikes.

As of 6 April, the Burma army’s military column was staying in Buddhist monasteries in Nyaung Kon village and Tuingo village.

After stationing in Nyaung Kon and Tuingo villages, Burma army soldiers began patrolling the surrounding area. The situation remain tense and more clashes can occur at anytime.

The CDF – KKG suggested that local people do not travel in the area and stay away from all locations where armed clashes are happening.
